What Really Happens in an Initial Consultation with VPI Design?
If you've browsed our portfolio, fallen in love with our transformations, and then paused before reaching out… you're not alone.
We’ve found that some visitors hesitate to book that first meeting simply because they don’t know what to expect.
So let’s lift the curtain.
An initial consultation with VPI Design isn’t a sales pitch. It’s a conversation—a way for both of us to get clarity, confidence, and alignment before we dive into something as personal as your home.
Here’s what we cover during that first meeting:
1. Understanding the Scope
Whether you’re refreshing a single room or undertaking a full-scale renovation, we start by defining what we’re actually talking about. How many spaces? What type of work? Do we need to bring in trades, or is this a styling and furnishings project? Getting clear on the scope upfront helps us set realistic expectations—for both the creative process and the timeline.
2. How You Use the Space
Design isn’t just about beauty—it’s about how you live. We’ll ask how you use your home today, what works, what doesn’t, and how you wish it felt. Maybe your kitchen isn’t keeping up with your love of entertaining, or your living room is beautiful but not functional. These insights shape everything we do.
3. Your Budget
Let’s take the guesswork out of it. We’ll talk openly about budget so we can align your vision with real-world numbers. We’ll also explain how we approach sourcing—sometimes selecting high-end custom pieces, and other times curating antiques, in-stock items, or VPI’s own private inventory. Transparency is key, and we’ll help you understand how your investment can be best used.
4. Timeline & Scheduling
Are you trying to finish a space before a big event? Is this a fast-track or a phased project? We’ll review your desired timeline, explain how our process works, and discuss availability for site visits, design presentations, and installations.
5. Style, Inspiration & Systems You Like
Some clients come with Pinterest boards and fabric samples, while others just want to talk and trust the process. We welcome both. We’ll ask what styles you gravitate toward, what homes or environments make you feel most at ease, and even what systems or brands you love (especially in kitchens and baths). These are the seeds that grow into a thoughtful, personalized design.
By the end of our consultation, you’ll walk away with a better understanding of what it’s like to work with VPI Design—and we’ll walk away with the foundation we need to create something remarkable together.
